Getting Home Alive!

Gatsby_450RBIf you, like me, have the ability to attract grease wherever you go, then this is just the book for you. And even if you don’t, this book is still a good read. The writer, Joe Puleo (he’s the one in the middle), tells stories that happened in the late sixties and early seventies, when “old cars” could be picked up for a song because not many people were interested in them. Not only A-Fords could be bought for almost nothing, also unrestored Rolls Royce’s and Bentley’s. ‘Getting Home Alive’ tells how the recently acquired antiques had to be driven home on 50-plus year’s tires, no brakes, no lights, no nothing. One of the cars the writer was involved with was a Rolls Royce, used in the movie The Great Gatsby. As part of the script the car was in an accident, several sets of fibreglass front fenders were made, so they could be appropriately damaged. Later these fenders found their way on many another Rolls Royce. This book is certainly a good read for all kinds of car nuts. It’s available in any good bookstore or directly from the publishers, The Radiator Cap Press.
